Section 12. Biblical Manuscripts from Belarus

118. Slutsk Gospel

Slutsk, 1582. Facsimile. National Library of Belarus, Minsk. The original is kept in one of Minsk churches (the house, or family church in honor of the Cathedral of the Belarusian Saints)

Slutsk Gospel is a unique hand-written artifact of the 16th century, one of the national orthodox sacred objects of Belarus. It was written on special paper, presumably, by one of the Belarusian princes. The book is richly decorated. During World War II Slutsk Gospel was taken away from Mahilyow State Museum and was considered lost for a long time. Anyhow, the manuscript was preserved and in 2003 it was handed over to Minsk Eparchy.
