Section 13. Old Printed Bibles from Belarus

140. The Latin-Polish Bible of Jakub Wujek

The publication by Shyman Martin Kazlouski. Vilnia, Juzeph Zavadski, 1896. National Library of Belarus, Minsk

This edition is known as ‘Kazlouski Bible’ as its creation owes a lot to the efforts of the Roman Catholic activist, Archbishop of Mahiliow and the Bible scholar Shyman Martin Kazlouski who lived in 1819-1899. He popularized the Vulgate text translated by Jakub Wujek. He was a great champion of the idea that Catholic priests should read the Bible and devote more attention to liturgy.
